It is Camelback’s goal for candidates and Fellows to feel secure and trusting to share their stories with Camelback so that we can meaningfully contribute to their venture and leadership development while creating belonging for ourselves and our organizations. In recognition of the many intersections and dimensions to accessibility, below are accommodations we are committed to make during the application and Fellowship experience.
Camelback Fellowship Application Accommodations
Applications are generally not geared towards the needs of people with disabilities, learning differences, or for those where English is not their first language. We get that, and we want to both learn from you and support you through the application process. We understand that not everyone is ready or comfortable to share these requests with us, although it is our hope to provide an inclusive and intentional response. If there is an accommodation you need that is not listed below, please reach out to Michaela at [email protected] with the Subject Line “Accessibility.” As a candidate for the Fellowship, we have the following resources throughout the application and interview process:
- Google Doc and PDF with all application text and questions for easy review and drafting
- Application portal guidance for those using a mobile device
- Video/voice response upload guidance with consideration for those with limited internet bandwidth and/or reservations about recording themselves
- Application & Fellowship 101 Webinar Recording with closed captioning and transcription
- If selected as a Finalist, preparation for the video interview will include a preview of questions and themes as well as the opportunity to request additional accommodations. This includes, but is not limited to, turning on/off cameras, being mindful of the pace of interviewers speech, and using the chat to reiterate verbal questions in written form.
Camelback Fellowship Program Accessibility Commitments
It’s our hope that we can meet every Fellow where they’re at in order for them to feel welcomed and engaged during the Fellowship. We strive to be personalized and responsive to individual Fellow circumstances, including across identity, disability, lifestyle, and family structures. The below list is not exhaustive and there are likely more accommodations we can tailor to a Fellows’ needs. If there is an accommodation not listed below that will support a Fellow in being present at virtual and in person programming, we encourage Fellows to raise it with their Program Lead. Fellows will connect 1:1 with their Program Lead upon Fellowship acceptance as well as throughout the program. If you are selected as a Fellow, you can expect the following accessibility considerations throughout the Fellowship:
- The primary language spoken by Camelback team, facilitators, and coaches is English. A proficiency in English is required to be eligible for the Fellowship.
- Welcome and Closing Weeks will be held in person. Dates and locations will be announced prior to Fellow selection (and are tentatively shared below.)
- A virtual option will be provided for circumstances such as, but not limited to, personal health considerations, caretaking responsibilities, and travel constraints.
- In person venues are vetted for ADA compliance whenever possible.
- Personal transportation (e.g. uber/lyft) between program venues and lodging will be provided by Camelback.
- Any physical activity, such as walks, are optional.
- Dietary restrictions and requirements are accommodated for meals whenever possible. If accommodations can not be made, we will offer alternatives.
- Both virtual and in person programming is designed to support diverse processing styles. This includes leveraging a balance of whole group discussion & presentation, 1:1 pairs, small group break-outs, and individual reflection time during programming.
- A mobile device, laptop, and reliable wifi connection is required for completion of all programming. While Camelback does not directly provide these technology requirements, we encourage Fellows to use their $40k in capital disbursements for those purposes.
- Any document, survey, or assignment can be reformatted to what would work best for the Fellow, especially with regards to accommodations for dexterity or visual impairment.
